Pardon me while I fan myself.
I love the weather where I live now, near Portland, Oregon ... moderate temperatures, dry in the summer and rain-ish the rest of the year. It is such a delight to live in a place where there are actual seasons. We have enough snow in the winter to be interesting without being too inconvenient, and enough heat during the summer to let me grow a little garden.
The last time I lived in a house without air conditioning, I was six years old. Here in the Pacific Northwest, you can get by without it, and I do. The big heat waves occur a few times during the summer months, for only a few days duration, during which time it can get chilly at night. A box fan in the window cools the house overnight quite nicely. It certainly saves on the electric bills.
But holy cow! We've set record temperatures here the past three days, 100-plus degrees Fahrenheit. Since the humidity is lower here, it isn't quite as oppressive as the heat on the Gulf Coast, but let's face it ... 107 degrees is 107 degrees, no matter where you are.
I need something to cool me off. So without further ado, here's a photo I took 6 1/2 months ago, standing on the deck in front of my house.
Phew! Boy, I feel a lot better now.
