The USGS has reported that at 10:14 PM CST yesterday (Thursday, February 9, 2006) a magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, 165 miles south of New Orleans.
People have reported feeling the effects as far away as Austin, Texas, and Orlando, Florida.
I lived in New Orleans for 43 years and don't recall that ever happening while I was there. Earthquakes in the Gulf of Mexico are extremely rare; it's not on any fault line.
These are truly interesting times in which we are living.
