I love the bumperstickers in Portland. Back on the Gulf Coast, the messages people "wore" on their cars were pretty much of the politically conservative and/or fundamentalist religious right variety. Here, they're much more diverse, politically, socially, and philosophically -- a reflection of the culture here in general. I'm enjoying the heck out of being around this.
Here's one I saw today:
NON-JUDGMENT DAY IS NEAR
(To which I'd reply, amen to that.)
Hi Kitty,
My favorite bumper sticker of all times is:
"The more people I meet, the more I like my cat."
Generally, bumper stickers kind of give me the creeps, no matter their orientation or viewpoint. I think it is equivalent to people shouting Look how clever I am, Look what a great sense of humor I have, Look how hip I am, Look how well-traveled I am, Look how politically attuned I am.
I don't know, maybe I'm just a little wary about trumpeting my inclinations and attitudes -- but then again, I have a blog, which is the Internet equivalent of a bumper sticker. Go figure.
OK, OK, I'll lighten up.

Michael, I already know you're clever and hip :) ;). I know what you mean, though. I'm a very private person, and when I'm driving I want to be left alone. Having my political and philosophical proclivities displayed on my car isn't the way to do that. I think I'd have a hard time fitting everything I want to say on a bumpersticker, anyway.
